Calcium Chloride, CaCl2 or pure calcium. It makes the best exothermic reation which melts the ice better. Salt is actually a poor ice melt when compared to others and it's bad for the environment, yet it is still widely used because it is so inexpensive.

Materials that melt ice quickly include but aren't limited to: Salt/Rock salt: Used in the winter, rock salt easily melts ice on most surfaces, regular salt would have the same effect on an ice cube. Water: Depending on the temperature and pressure, water can melt ice in a matter of minutes (or longer, depending on the thickness of the ice) Heat (in any form): The amount of heat and the time applied.

Heat will melt an ice cube. An ice cube, sitting on a glass on a table, can absorb heat through the air and by conduction with contact to the glass. Glass and air are both heat insulators, so the process will be slow. To quicken the process, you need a medium that conducts heat efficiently, namely a metal. that an ice cube will melt faster when sitting in a metal (steel) cup than a glass. I can prove it with a control experiment using ice cubes ideally the same size and shape and ideally identical metal and glass cups in size and shape, sitting side by side in a still-air room.

The most effective substance for melting ice is salt. Water also works. Sand can be used to keep from slipping on the ice.

Fire *troll face* No but really the fastest thing to melt ice would be a quark-gluon plasma:)

What substance melts ice most efficiently sugar salt pepper or artificial sweetener?

== == Salt lowers the freezing point of water by 32 degrees. If salt is sprinkled onto ice, it causes the ice to melt by a heat transfer. Out of the substances listed, salt would melt ice most efficiently.

What is unsorted rock material that is deposited by ice when the ice melts?

Glacial till or 'Moraine'.

How does the material of the container affect its melting time of the ice?
