A:

Judaism, Christianity and Islam are known collectively as the Abrahamic religions, because all three religions teach that Abraham was a historical person and the first to believe in one God. Judaism, Christianity and Islam are sometimes also known collectively as the monotheistic religions, but actually there are other monotheistic religions.

Judaism is the oldest of the three religions and teaches that its roots go back to the patriarch Abraham, although critical scholars say that it actually developed over the course of the thousand years before Christ, more or less completing that evolution with the production of the Talmud a few centuries later. Christianity evolved from Judaism during the the final centuries of the evolution of Judaism itself, around two thousand years ago. Some six hundred years later, Islam developed in southern Arabia and incorporates the teachings of both Judaism and Christianity. All three religions worship the same God, have similar (but not identical) teachings about creation and venerate more or less the same ancient prophets.

They are called Abrahamic religions. They are all monotheistic religions tracing their origins to Abraham.

They worship one eternal God who created the universe, who rules history. The Abrahamic religions believe God sends prophetic and angelic messengers and reveals His divine will through inspired Scriptures.

They also affirm that obedience to God is to be lived out historically, and that one day God will judge the world.

The Abrahamic religions believe man has a choice between obedience or disobedience to God, a choice between good and evil

Christianity is derived from Judaism and what is practiced today has gone through many many changes. The Roman Catholic version of christianity started between 33 C.E. and around 100 C.E. Judaism goes back before recorded history as to when it started or from whence it came are a mystery. Islam started in the Middle East around 600 C.E. and is based off of instructions on how to live the great prophet Muhammad recieved from God.

The question is interpreted differently depending on what perspective you use to answer the question.

Secular Discipline of Religious Studies
In the secular discipline of study of religion, Islam would be considered a religion that claims to be a successor to Judaism and Christianity as it holds many doctrines in common with those previously extant religions and sees itself as a correction and improvement of their doctrines.

Islamic View
The three religions are basically calling for submission (Islam in Arabic) to same God (Allah in Arabic). This monotheism shows that they are part of the same religious tradition and Islam is simply the final revelation to all those embraced by the Jews and Christians before

Jewish or Christian View
Judaism and Christianity don't see Islam as a successor. They see Islam as a religion that contains certain basic mistakes, despite its monotheism.

The relationship of Islam to Christianity and Judaism is as a descendant religion. It is not a 'successor' religion in that Christianity and Judaism continue to exist.

ChristianityJudaism and Islam are similar in that each?

Judaism, Christianity and Islam each speak of the religion of Abraham and the Prophets. They refer to the very same God - in Hebrew Elohim, in Aramaic (the language Jesus spoke) Allah, and in Arabic also Allah. But the three religions differ in some basic points: 1) Judaism officially says that the religion of Abraham is for Jews, only. 2)Christianity says that the religion of Abraham is for all people - but official Christian teachings say that God had a son who spilled his blood for the redemption of believers. This is very very different than both Judaism and Islam. 3)Islam says that the religion of Abraham is for all people - but that the real Jesus NEVER said that he is any kind of god. Redemption is for those who : believe in God's Oneness and do good deeds. Muhammad is the last Prophet - who was foretold by Moses and Jesus, as well as many other Prophets. ( Google the words: "Muhammad in the Bible" for articles on this subject ). In Islam, Muhammad did not bring a 'new' religion. He brought the TRUTH about the religion of Abraham - which Jews and Christians had changed into something incorrect. www.freequran.org

Which religion was there then any other religion?

If this question is "Which religion was there before any other religion?" I can kind of answer it :) It isn't known. It is believed there was animal and nature worship first. Polytheism (worshipping of many different, though distinct, gods) came later. As far as I can remember, Judaism was the first monotheistic religion, from which Christianity has its basis. Islam came several centuries after Christianity. Of course, monotheism did not necessarily replace polytheism, or even animal/nature worship. Many cultures still practice those. Hinduism is a good representative of modern polytheism.

What religion was the main religion in the high renaissance?

In Western Europe, Roman Catholic Christianity was the only religion accepted on a large scale. Judaism was little tolerated, and many Jews practiced in secret. Paganism was considered a heresy punishable by death and also had to be practiced in secret, as was any kind of non-Catholic Christianity. Islam was also considered a heresy, except in southern Spain and parts of Eastern Europe where the Muslims held political control. The Muslims tolerated Christianity and Judaism but had no tolerance for paganism. In Eastern Europe, Orthodox Christianity was as intolerant toward other religions as Catholicism was in Western Europe.
