They were in the field of literature: literacy was highly regarded, and many towns and temples had libraries. The Mesopotamians produced a lot of literature, the Epic of Gilgamesh being still famous today, later 'translated' in The Bible as the story of Noah.

In mathematics they invented a numerical system based on 60s, which even today is the reason we have a 60 minutes' hour and a 360 degree circle, among others.

In astronomy the Mesopotamians made very important discoveries with the most primitive of means and they worked out the movement of planets. Their very systematic and scientific approach to astronomy is now called 'the first scientific revolution'.

In medicine, they were first with a systematic approach to illnesses, enabling them to diagnose and predict the probable course of illnesses. Effective treatment by the way of most diseases would have to wait for the late 19th and (mostly) 20th century discoveries.

They were also probably the first to discover weaving, and irrigation techniques.
