The Mongol Empire is often stereotyped as ruthless and brutal and nothing else. But, you also have to remember that most of the historical accounts that we have of the Mongols are from the places that they attacked; so you have to remember to look at the point of view. But, the Mongols were so much more important and have a much bigger impact than just their amazing fighting style!

The Mongol empire was one of the largest ones in history. Under Genghis Khan, who took power in the early part of the 13th century, it began to expand to the point of uniting territories on its West containing parts of Turkey and Russia to the East enveloping China to the Pacific Ocean. Khan greatest achievement can be his code of law called Great Yasa.

Under this code the Mongols showed respect for all of their subjects, taught religious freedom and emphasized studying and learning.

Traditionally, each son in a Mongolian family would receive part of the family herd when he married. The elder son would receive more than the younger son(s). The youngest son would remain in the parental tent caring for his parents, and after their death he would inherit the parental tent in addition to his own part of the herd. This inheritance system was mandated by law codes created by Genghis Khan. Family units would often remain near each other and in close cooperation.
