Most of it boils down to opinion, and the Army Reserve will have pros and cons when audited against another component, such as the Army National Guard.

The biggest disadvantage of the Army Reserve vs. National Guard I can see is that a lot of (but not all of) Army Reserve units are non-deployable. What this means is that the unit as a whole cannot be deployed, but individuals within the unit can be deployed, the end result of this being that, if one is deployed individually from a non-deployable unit, they would ultimately end up serving in a unit full of people who were strangers to them, and with whom a good sense of rapport wouldn't necessarily be built up. When you deploy into a combat environment, it's preferably to know the people you're going with.

The Army Reserve is composed of support and training units, with the exception of one battalion of infantry (100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment, based in Hawaii). For this reason, members of other components do have a tendency to look down on the Army Reserve. Which may be an issue or a non-issue, depending on how you end up taking that.

States may offer additional bonuses for enlistment into the National Guard which are not available to Army Reservists. On the flip side, the Army may offer bonuses for enlistment into the Army Reserve which are not available to the National Guard.

As an Army Reservist, you would not be subject to activation by your state governor. Some may see this as an advantage, but those who've enlisted with the intent of serving the community directly around them could see this as a disadvantage.

There is no "Florida Army Reserve", although there are Army Reserve units in Florida. The Army Reserve is wholly a federal agency, which the states have no jurisdiction over. Can you be in the Army Reserve and be a Ranger at the same time?

If you earned your Ranger tab on active duty prior to joining the Army Reserve, you will still continue to be Ranger qualified. If you are simply serving in the US Army Reserve and intent to be sent to Ranger school from your Reserve unit, your chances are slim to none, and you would be better off to join the National Guard and try to get into a Special Forces unit of the National Guard. If you are looking to serve in a Ranger unit of the US Army Reserve, then this will be impossible, as there are no such units in the Army Reserve. The US Army Reserve is composed of training and support units, with all combat arms relegated to the Regular Army and Army National Guard. The one exception to this is the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment, which is an infantry battalion of the US Army Reserve, which is composed of reservists from Hawaii, American Samoa, Saipan, and Guam.
