PTSD is a psychological disorder that involves a maladaptive reaction to a traumatic event. People with this disorder usually have a continuous problem of adjustment, even after several years after the traumatic event has passed. Symptoms are avoiding anything that reminds them of the event, traumatic flashbacks, depression or severe anxiety, difficulties relaxing , and difficulties feeling strong emotions. Common suffers of PTSD are people that have AIDS, cancer, or were once in combat.
Extreme emotional reactivity relative to the original trauma co-sequential with possible physical symptoms (shaking, trembling, running, hitting); flashback imagery which may occur with or without conscious recognition of the images; memory loss, particularly short-term memory; fits of blind rage, often with features of dissociation followed by partial or total loss of memory of the rage event. Other dissociative phenomenon have also been observed, which may appear as social withdrawal, partial or total isolation, aggressive/defensive affect, aloofness, emotional nonchalance, and other behaviors which represent enactments of an out-of-touch personality. The most telling symptom, however, are the fits of rage.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is emotional and physical problems that happen after a horrible event such as war or disaster.
A conditon that may develop after exposure to a terrifying event that threatened or caused physical harm!!!
A sense of personal isolation and chronic anxiety
Night terrors, constant recurring and/or alteration memories of the traumatic event(s), apathy, and in worse cases, reality detachment and hallucinations.
Not clearly defined but may be influenced by the severity of the event, person's personality and genetic make-up and by whether or not the trauma was expected.
Officially termed post-traumatic stress disorder since 1980, PTSD was once known as shell shock or battle fatigue because of its more common manifestation in war veterans.

If you have nightmares and believe that you may be suffering from post traumatic stress, it is likely the PTS results from the same trauma that causes the nightmares.
No. There is no evidence to support this statement.
A class of traumatic stress disorders that is characterized by the significant dissociative states seen immediately after overwhelming trauma. By definition it cannot last longer than 1 month, if it persists, a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (STRESS DISORDERS, POST-TRAUMATIC) is more appropriate.
