A soft boot is when you just turn a device off and back on. Which you can do by hitting the power button off then back on or use a reset button which also powers off and on a device automatically.

A hard boot is when you completely erase the software that runs in the device and re install it back on to the device.

soft boot same to warm boot. IT is Restarting the computer without turning the power off. The opposite of hard boot. One method of resetting a computer system that is already powered on, commonly used to recover from errors that cannot be recovered, or when a computer locks. A warm boot can be accomplished by pressing the CTRL - ALT - DEL keys simultaneously, or by selecting the restart command from an operating system menu. Warm boots run faster than turning a computer off and on again.
