the metal loses structural integrity, flakes and scales off the main portion, becomes more brittle, changes the harmonics, aesthetic problems, changes in melting point, different reactions to chemicals, higher dissolution rate in watter, greater support for bacteria and viruses such as tetanus, and others depending on the application it is used for.

ADVANTAGES OF CORROSION INTERCEPT

  • Reacts with and permanently neutralizes corrosive gases.
  • Creates a torturous path for gases, fungus and bacteria
  • Intercept is not a VCI
  • Provides cost savings by eliminating secondary

cleaning operations often required with VCI protections

  • Leaves no deposits on any product it protects.
  • Corrosion protection life several times that of other methods.
  • 1 mil thickness of Intercept gives 10 years corrosion protection.
  • Cleanses trapped air of all corrosive gases
  • Built in saturation indicator
  • Environmentally friendly by being fully recyclable
  • Completely free from volatile chemicals
  • Effective corrosion protection for: Silver, Copper, Brass, Bronze, Ferrous Metals & Galvanic Corrosion
  • Passes the PAT Test at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Is this erosion or corrosion? Erosion would include farmland or other land being taken away in rivers leaving less fertile land behind. Or in an extreme causing landslides. The economics of course, would be less land left for farming. In some areas such as in the Amazon Jungle there is a brutal cycle of cutting trees, short term farming and soil depletion, and cutting more trees and doing the same. However, some farmland also depends on periodic deposition of fertile land from erosion elsewhere. Walling off rivers with dikes as well as installing dams eliminates this cycle, and consequences include less fertile bottom land in the valleys, as well as sinking cities like New Orleans. Corrosion is usually a term that applies to metals. Some metals corrode worse than others. For example basic Iron and Steel corrode (rust) in many environments. Copper, Brass, Bronze, Aluminum, and etc corrode less than steel. Although, that can be environment specific. Brass is good around normal water, but it will corrode in sea water. Stainless Steel is corrosion resistant in many environments. So, the basic economics: plain steel and iron are cheap to make. Stainless or other corrosion resistant metals are expensive to make. However, some of this is being replaced by cheap plastics. Thick bare metal may last for years, even in harsh environments. For example, cast iron drain pipes are probably good for 50-100 years. But, that would mean one should expect a major remodel ad significant cost later in a house after 50 years or so. Rust probably helps hold bolts together, but rusted bolts are a pain for many mechanics and might even double the basic repair costs of many items. But, if you never expect to say... remove a bumper on your car, then it really doesn't make any difference if one doesn't anticipate the bolt rusting through for complete failure. A lightly rusted hammer is as good as a non-rusty one. A heavily rusted monkey wrench is worthless. That gets us into the economics of a disposable society. If manufacture A makes cars designed to last 5 years... and manufacture B makes cars to last 20 years. Manufacture A might sell 4 times as many cars as B at a lower profit margin, cheaper cars, and keeping more employees busy. Manufacture B is then selling fewer cars at a higher cost. For the consumer, it is a pain to buy the same thing over and over and over again, and costs certainly add up. But, back to the cars... the 5 yr old car might have the latest greatest features like airbags and antilock brakes. The 20 yr old car doesn't have this. With computers... aside from corrosion, it might be fun to see of my Apple II will still boot up. But, it is much nicer to throw out the old and get something new. One can argue the impact of disposable vs durable goods on an economy for a long time.
