The presidential system is where the head of government and head of state are the same person. A big advantage is that the president is directly elected by the people. Additionally, he or she can act more quickly and decisively, and the powers between the branches of government stay separated for checks and balances.

The democratic form of government allows a open forum of ideas and beliefs which may result in legislative gridlock, or the lack of action. It gives time for a discussion of important issues and for men and women of both sides to express themselves and convince the public of the rightness of their position.

Although imperfect, it is far and away better than a Dictatorship where the people have no voice and no choice. There is freedom of speech, thought, and expression.

In the exploration of conflicting opinions, there is gridlock, as mentioned earlier. Getting things "done" takes a long time when the sides are evenly divided. However, this "flaw" or "disadvantage" prevents the majority from running roughshod over the minority. This slowness in governmental processes is actually a safety measure, though it can be frustrating during the lobbying process.

A presidential democracy is great because it doesn't allow one person or a group of people to run the country, rather, it is run by the people as a whole. The disadvantage to this, however, is in a crisis, a solution cannot be reached quickly or easily, due to the amount of processing required for a decision to be made and a solution to be set in motion.
