Our forefathers argued about this for years before penning the Constitution.
The main objectives for the US Federal Government, that is all three branches: Executive, Judicial, and Legislative together, is to protect the United States and its territories from foreign aggression (armies, missiles, warships), and provided the social programs that are dubbed necessary to have a healthy working society. The Federal government provides a sort of communal pool of funds for state programs, including those for education (both for public schools and public universities), state roads, public waters, parks, infrastructure in general (trains, subway systems, etc.), as well as providing grants for community or state projects.
The biggest branch of the Federal Government is the Executive branch (the one concerning the President and deparments below him). It has 15 departments, I'll list some of them below and what they're meant to do, but it may not be all that they do.
-Veterans' Affairs- takes care of soldiers and veterans post-service.
-The Department of State- deals with foreign affairs and handles Americans once they've gone overseas (be it for vacation, work, or study, you'll need to go through the Department of State and embassies for visas)
-Defense- deals with the military and its branches
-Homeland Security- handles intelligence and determines the urgency of security threats, and helps America in times of natural disasters.
-Treasury- deals with the printing of money
-Justice- prevents crime and ensures public safety
-Agriculture- deals with regulations and safety measures for America's agricultural sector, also subsidizes America's farmers, and is behind the Federal programs to eradicate starvation and malnutrition in America, makes sure your food safe
-Health and Human Services- ensures public safety with new medicines and procedures
-Interior- they deal with parks, animals, and greenery

From this, you can understand how impossible it would be to have a functional infrastructure or education system without the Federal Government. Even state-run programs are often funded from federal grants.
Executive functions of the Federal Government are performed by the President, otherwise known as the Executive Branch.
The central government of the US is the Federal government.
It refers to federal government.
The central government of the US is the Federal government.
NOT EXACTLY. The US Government Shutdowns refer exclusively to the US Federal Budgetary obligations. In theory, the US State Governments should not be affected, since their own budgets operate based on votes and balancing on a state level. However, in the US, most state governments receive a large percentage of their funds from the federal government. As a result, a number of state government functions are frozen or have their funds reallocated to make up for the shortfall from the federal government. Additionally, many of the government employees that people are familiar with are actually federal employees, such as local branch offices of federal executive agencies, post office workers, and the people who run national parks and monuments.

because the US has power (federal) and the government ,which is the citizens, elect leaders to represent them.
The US Constitution established the Federal system of government. The best way to describe the Federal system of government is that it is a shared power of government between the nation and the states.
The system is called federalism, the creation of a central government to operate and coordinate shared government functions among the states.
