What are the laws on auto concealment in Texas?

Under Texas law if you meet the "requirements", then you can carry it "on or about his or her person".

This means on your person or near enough to you that is is within easy reach. If you do not meet the "requirements" then you can not carry it on or about your person. Ie. in the trunk. Glove box would be considered on or about.

The requirements mentioned above to be able to carry a handgun on or about your person in your vehicle without a license are:

1 it must be your vehicle or a vehicle under your control

2 it must be concealed

3 legally able to possess the handgun

4 not committing any crime other than class c traffic

5 not a member of a street gang

A creditor may not breach the peace in repossessing the vehicle and please don't just hide or refuse to surrender collateral to a lienholder indefinitely. You have a duty under the civil law, the Texas Business and Commerce Code, Sec 9.503 to make collateral available to a lienholder when demanded.

There is also a criminal statute, Hindering Secured Creditors, Sec 32.33 of the Texas Penal Code, which makes it a crime to conceal, remove, or harm, etc. property on which there's a lien with the intent to hinder enforcement of the lien. As long as you are not otherwise prohibited from being in possession of a weapon, and are not engaging in any criminal activity (other than traffic offenses), you may carry a weapon in your vehicle.

The law in Texas states that in order to carry a concealed handgun in public, one must obtain a Concealed Handgun Licence. One must be a resident of Texas or a resident of another US state where the Texas licence is valid.
