What three important events happened in the book the Hunger Games?

Katniss volunteers to go into The Hunger Games so her 12-year-old sister Prim doesn't have to. Peeta gets reaped to go into the Games but no-one volunteers for him. Katniss, Peeta and 22 other children aged 12 to 18 go into the Hunger Games to fight to the death. Katniss allies with Rue, a 12-year-old girl from District 11, but she is killed soon after the alliance is formed. She was speared in the stomach by Marvel, a 16-year-old boy from District 1, and Katniss sang to her while she died. She then covered her in flowers, sparking a rebellion in the Districts against the Capitol (the people who made the Hunger Games and rule over the districts). After a rule change that meant two tributes from the same district could win, Katniss makes an alliance with a dying Peeta, who had announced before the Games in a live, televised interview that he loved Katniss. After winning some medicine for Peeta, Katniss cures him and they stay in a cave they found until only one tribute remains: Cato from District 2. Katniss and Peeta find Cato at the Cornucopia (the place where the tributes started), and he is attacked by dog-like genetic mutations that look like the fallen tributes. Katniss shoots Cato with a bow and arrow to put him out of his misery. According to the rule change, Katniss and Peeta have won, but it is announced that the rule change has been revoked and only one tribute can win after all. As neither one wants to kill the other, they both threaten to commit suicide by eating poisonous berries called Nightlock. Knowing that they had to have a victor, the rule change is put back in place and Peeta and Katniss win the Hunger Games. However, a rebellion has already started in the districts, and in the later books you find that the Hunger Games was only the start of Katniss' problems.

• Katniss takes her sister's place in the Hunger Games at the reaping.
• Haymitch tells Peeta to pretend to be in love with Katniss, and she later catches on.
• Tributes are told that if two tributes from the same district are the last two survivors, they automatically win so Katniss sets off to find Peeta and they form an allience.
• The two become that final two survivors, and are than told that there can only be 1 victor. So Katniss fools the Capitol by planning to kill the both of them at once (Remember, they have to pretend to be star crossed lovers!) and the Capitol change their minds and let them both leave the arena alive.
• Peeta tells Katniss that, even though he was told to pretend to be in love with her, he didn't pretend and that he really does love her.

Another important and maybe the most memorable event is that Rue is killed after Katniss destroys the careers' food stock.

I love this book. and i would have to say....

1)Katniss and Peeta go into the hunger games witch is held every year for the capital to tell who is on control.and the whole this is on live TV 24/7. they take a boy and a girl from every district(12 districts)

2)throughout the games Peeta and Katniss begin to like each other(peeta liked her since they were in kindergarten)even though its forced.

3)they almost die a LOT like with the fire, mutts, tracker jacker, and just plain kids killing

4) this may not sound to important but this is the most important part. they are the only 2 left and they don't want to kill each other so the eat poisoning berries(well not ALL the way) but then the capital say that they can both win. but they are not happy that they have rebelled against the capital.

end of book 1(and it all goes downhill from there)

prim is chosen, katniss volenteers, they go to the capitol,cinna dresses katniss,peeta tells katniss about how he does not want to be a "piece" in thier game,dinner at the table and katniss sees the avox, katniss crys her eyes out fot feeling bad about hurting peeta,katniss sees the avox again and they talk, traing starts, at private lesson katniss get annoyed becuase they are not paying attentioin to her so she shoots and arrow at the apple in the pigs mouth, she gets an 11.

The whole rebellion, the fact that there is the hunger games, starvation and death (Rue's death is a big one). This really kicks up when Peeta and Katniss fake their attempted suicide at the end which sets the plot for Cathing fire.
