We own two Westies and can tell you many stories of how adorable and loyal these dogs are. They are incredibly smart and easily trained. Like any dog, they learn how to run the house and wiggle their way into your heart. Westie owners are highly loyal to this breed. Westies make suitable lap dogs, but as I have said elsewhere, they require exercise to keep their weight in the 15-25lb range. Westies over 20lbs are just outside the breed range, but breeding and exercise can make all that relative.
The major con is the care of a Westies skin. Owners have to keep a close eye on simple care. Excessive bathing is not recommended as it can dry out their skin. Also keep in mind that even environmental Allergies like weeds in the yard can affect your Westie just like they do you. Treat your Westie like a human and maybe even better than yourself.
