You are probably thinking of The Seven Ages of Man, the name given to a famous speech said by the character Jaques in Shakespeare's play As You Like It. Jaques is a kind of a grumpy but funny character who always likes to see the bad side of things, and this is true of this speech also. In other words, the ideas in the speech belong to Jaques, not Shakespeare. Shakespeare had one of his characters say "Now could I drink hot blood", but that doesn't mean Shakespeare was a vampire.

Jaques describes the life of a supposedly typical man as a play with seven acts: baby, schoolboy, lover, soldier, justice, retiree and senile old man. He describes each of them in a way that is funny yet sad, in accordance with his character.
