An almanac gives more straight on facts, not big articles written on them like encyclopedias. The only real similarity is that they give you somewhat updated facts.
Both dictionaries and thesauruses are useful, and they are both good when writing reports. Even though they both have different uses, they are, in a way, the same. :)
