AnswerThat happened to my piggies when I kept them in a fish tank (BAD pet store advice). It comes from nosing around in their own urine and feces and not having enough air circulation, like a bacterial infection. I was also told by the same pet store to change their bedding once every week or two. BAD ADVICE AGAIN. Now that I keep them in a proper cage, change their bedding every few days, (and the pet store is out of business-- I wonder why?) I haven't had the problem in a year, when it used to happen all the time.
