AnswerCheck the oil, if it has a milky-whiteish tint to it, there's a good chance your head gasket is out. Answerturn on your heater and see if blows hot air. If it doesn't and it's cold this is probablly a sign you have a blown head gasket. AnswerAnother symptom of that is if your vehicle smokes heavily out of the tailpipe and if you try and drive on a hill and when you accelerate the car cuts off.

Oil in the antifreeze / antifreeze in the oil, loss of performance, overheating, thick smoke out of tailpipe.

How do you tell if you have blown head gasket or cracked block in a 1991 Chrysler lebaron?

A blown head gasket can have many symptoms including loss of coolant out the tailpipe, mixing of coolant and oil (which makes the oil look something like a chocolate milkshake), loss of power, or low compression in one or more cylinders. A cracked block can also exhibit these same symptoms but is less likely.

What is the difference between a cracked block and a blown head gasket?

A cracked block means that the engine itself is cracked. A blown head-gasket means that the gasket between the engine and the head has blown. Either can be caused by overheating the engine. When an engine overheats the head can warp causing the head-gasket to give out. In some engines the heat cracks the block. If the block is cracked, it's over. If the head-gasket is blown you can always machine the head surface and put it all back together.

How do you repair a blown head gasket or cracked head?

A blown gasket can be repaired by replacing the gasket...if you are talking about the head gasket, then you have to remove the cylinder head from the engine block and replace the gasket that is inbetween them. Cracked heads generally have to be replaced because they are made of aluminum which cannot be repaired permanently once it is cracked.
