It depends what you are planning to do with your PowerPoint presentation. If it is for a presentation that you are also going to narrate; I recommend the following:

First of all, adopt the mentality of less is more. The fewer words you can use on your slide, the better. No words? Even better. You don't want to take away anything from your actual talk. Use pictures as references for what you're talking about.
