There are so many things, and many things that are still debated by historians. But I think the three greatest things Caesar did for Rome were:
1. Solving the massive debt crisis that many lower class Romans were chained to. His financial reforms are one of his most underrated achievements.
2. Granting citizenship to non-Romans in every part of the empire along with laws that prevented exploitation by Roman governors.
3. Allowing the poorest Romans to start new lives in new colonies, giving them land. These are the most important things because they helped to stabilize the Empire and plant the seeds for the so-called Pax Romana.
He did so much that it would be difficult to single out one. But, for most historians, defeating Pompey and becoming the sole power in Rome is probably looked at as the most important as it essentially ended the Republic as most saw it.
Others would say:
His calendar reform. The Julian calendar is the one ours is based off.
Stabilizing the empire with citizenship laws and financial reform.
Julius Caesar was born and died in Rome.

No, you have your Caesars mixed. Julius Caesar was the older one. Julius was a dictator who was killed. Augustus Caesar was the adopted son of Julius Caesar who became Rome's first citizen or as we call him, Rome's first emperor.

Julius Caesar is a man who was in the First Triumvirate of Rome. He also was the first dictator of Rome. A correction here. Julius Caesar was not the first dictator of Rome. There were 78 men who held the office of dictator before Caesar.
