The best way to stop identity theft is to do the following: * Opt out of solicitation offers so you don't get all those offers for credit in the mail. This is an easy way for a thief to apply for credit in your name. * Put a fraud block on your credit bureau report. This means that no new accounts can be opened while the block is in place. The block only stays in place for 3 months, so you need to make sure to have it put back into place every few months. * If you get an email asking you to click the link to do any kind of account updating that would require you to enter your login name, password, or any other sensitive info, don't click the link. Instead just type the address of the website manually into the address bar and visit the site this way.

There are also several identity theft prevention products for sale that can automate everything for you for a small monthly fee each month.

There are many ways to prevent identity theft. One of the most effective is how you protect yourself using credit cards online.

Use a credit card that you add money to, like a green dot card or 5/3 bank has a card called Access 360. Only use this card to pay bills or shop on the internet, and only add the amount or a little over the amount you expect to use.

These cards have only amounts available that you add to it. So if your card information does get hacked, your not out a lot of money and there is no access to a checking or savings account directly.

But in reality, identity theft rate is rising at an alarming rate, and does not show any slowing down any time soon. So in reality, it is a major problem in every state, really in every country.

So what does one do to protect yourself? There are several companies that you can join to monitor identity theft, but one actually works to prevent and protect you.
