Pearl Harbor is the base. It is US Navy base. The home of the Pacific fleet. The following targets on the Island of Oahu were assigned to these Japanese units: 1st and 2nd Fighter Combat Units: Ford Island and Hickam Field. 3rd and 4th Fighter Combat Units: Wheeler Field and Barbers Point. 5th and 6th Fighter Combat Units: Kaneohe Ford Island was in the middle of Pearl Harbor and Hickam Field was an air base just south of it. Wheeler Field was some distance away in the center of the island. Kaneohe was on a point on the east end of the island of Oahu. A second attack was planned for the same targets but this was canceled due to the success of the initial strike. No bases were destroyed. Little carrier based airplanes could not carry nearly enough ordnance to destroy an entire base. However Pearl Harbor naval base, Rooselvelt Island, Hickam Field air base and the Army installation that housed the 24th Infantry Division all suffered various amounts of damage. All nine battleships and several cruisers and destroyers were sunk at their moorings. Most of the airplanes were destroyed on the ground. Fuel depots and other buildings were bombed. But all of the bases continued to perform their functions and most of the damage was repaired in a few weeks. Michael Montagne
