Germany needed to capture Stalingrad (now renamed Volgograd) but failed. You see Stalingrad was the the city sanding between them and Moscow. If the they captured the city they would have a road leading to Moscow! (Oh snap!) But it was a epic fail. Then the Russians regrouped and push back the Germans. The Germans and Russians was not all ways enemies. When the were allies Russia trusted the Germans but a surprise invasion was under go. Russians out numbered the Germans 10 to 1 but if the Germans were to invade Russia and capture their capital city they would surrender. Fail. But they almost succeeded. Of course the Russian army was scattered through out the Mother land but when the attack failed most of the Russian army were now sent to the front lines.
The Russians were in Berlin by spring.

∙ 11y agoThere was a lot of little events that gradually led to the surrender of each of the axis powers, but for Germany, the final straw was due to Soviets coming from the East and American's in the West. Not only where America and Russia two major armies but they had Germany surrounded. At that point, there was no way for Germany tosurvive. To make matters worse for the country, Hitler (allegedly) committedsuicide near the end.

∙ 12y agoThey didn't. After Hitler's suicide, the Germans surrendered to the Allied command on the Western Front. Battles against the Soviets continued in German cities, sometimes hand-to-hand.
