i don't know help me please so i can get a good grademaybe you should look in the TEXTBOOK! that's what I did. it should be on page 341 of your text book. read the defention. its really simple, genetic engineering is messing with the DNA to improve it. so the benefits of engineering plants genetically could be making them healthier, or to grow faster and to be more efficient. don't take that answer it might not be right, hope that helped. -Hannah

Hi, my answer might be beneficial to this question:

"It may take many generations of breeding for a trait to become homozygous and consistently expressed in the population. Genetic engineering is a faster and more reliable method for increasing the frequency of a specific allele in a population."

I received this answer from page 341 in my Glencoe Biology textbook.

Good luck on your journey to learning!

Genetic engineering in crops entails genetic modification of crops to confer traits such as drought tolerance, selective toxicity to insects and improved nutrition value. This improves the farm yield by minimizing crop loss to drought and insects. Bt cotton and Bt maize are genetically modified to produce Bt toxin that is toxic to pests.

Genetic Engineering of Crop PlantsOne benefit of genetic engineering of crop plants is that higher amounts of chemical weed killers can be used on the genetically engineered crops, providing higher yields. The crop is engineered to withstand the chemicals, while the weeds are killed. There is some evidence that higher and higher levels of chemicals must be used to accomplish that and the effects on consumers has not been thoroughly studied, though.

What are some risks of genetically engineering plants?

When plants, especially crop plants. are genetically engineered they are completely uniform in all characteristics. They have no genetic diversity. If the crop should be attacked by pests that it has no defense for, all will be affected and perhaps die, and the crop would be totally worthless.

What characteristic is often genetically engineered in crop plants?

By far the characteristic that is most often genetically engineered into crop plants is resistance to herbicides, with engineering crops to produce a substance that kills insects into the plant itself a close second.

Crop plants are more susceptible to insects

How does urbanization affect agriculture?

The increase in population due to Urbanization has required an increase in agriculture to feed the growing population. This has led to innovations in farming practices - such as irrigation, crop rotation, and genetic engineering.
