mars is basically covered by melted rocks that was created by volcanic activities several million years ago. Further more you can find deep furrows that was created by meteoroids or ancient rivers that dried up. There are also great mountains, some of them are inactive volcanoes and some are believed to be structures that was once made by some civilization (theory). You can find a North and a South pole on mars which is covered by ice and there are a lot of dust storms that gathers up
