According to the United States Holocaust Museum, Jehovah's Witnesses were targeted for persecution because of their religious convictions. They refused to swear loyalty to the Nazi regime or perform the Heil Hitler salute, and refused to serve in the military.

Jehovah's Witnesses could escape their persecution by changing their stand and going along with the regime.

However, most Jehovah's Witnesses did not renounce their faith and ultimately around 10,000 were persecuted, some were tortured and an estimated 2,500 to 5,000 died or were killed in the concentration camps.

•Jehovah's Witnesses preaching work was put under ban.

•They were sent to concentration camps in cattle cars because they refused to support the war where over 2 thousand Jehovah's Witnesses died.

Jehovah's Witnesses were bitterly persecuted because they refused to cooperate with Hitler's Nazi Regime. Their meeting places were closed down, their literature banned and many were put in concentration camps where thousands died.

Their properties were seized, their national headquarters closed, their literature was banned and their members were arrested, imprisoned and many were sent to concentration or work camps where some were executed (shot, beheaded) or died of other causes. The United States Holocaust Museum has some good information.

For an academic point of view Professor Christine King's book "The Nazi's and the new religions" which was her doctoral thesis is an excellent read and source of information.

Jehovah's Witnesses were sent to all of the major labour and concentration camps for their refusal to cooperate with the Nazi regime during the second world war; notably Auschwitz, Sachsenhausen, Dachau, Neuengamme, Mauthausen, Buchenald, and others. Many of them died or were executed at these sites.
