Bananas as we know them in the US are generally green when picked , but yellow when we see them in the store. In some parts of the country, there are starchy types of banana's called plantains. or platanos. These start off like most bananas, sort of brownish-green. When they get very ripe,they get very dark brown. Some people I know prefer them that way for the higher sugar and starch content. When you fry platanos like this, in butter, they practically make their own syrup. In Hawaii, they have some little paler yellow bananas called ice cream bananas. When full grown, each banana is the size of the thumb of a grown man. Their texture is lighter and almost fluffy. They mostly taste of banana like we know them on the Mainland, but have a sort of tropical aftertaste.very light of something like mango or passion fruit. i guess it depends on how they were cross-pollinated Most bananas we buy here in the store are from South America. I imagine there are species of bananas in Africa,but i hope another can add more. Nutritionally, bananas have potassium in abundance.Doctors often advise older people to eat bananas often, as potassium is crucial to heart health. Pretty, sweet, and healthy too. A banana is truly a good thimg.
The original color of a banana is green but once it's ready to eat, it'll turn yellow.
