If your a woman it could be your ovaries, like, a cyst on them or a tumor or it could just be pains from major body changes if you're pregnant. If it's none of those things, sometimes that happens to dehydrated people as well.
It usually involves the end of the colon and can simply be cramps or constipation or holding stool or more serious things like inflammatory or diverticular disease.
It can also be from the ovaries or from the abdominal wall (especially if there is a hernia) or from kidneys stones.
If it is mild and goes away on its own then you can probably just use some heating pads and Tylenol and treat it at home.
If you cannot tolerate food, have a high fever, have severe pain, have blood int he stool or if it persists for more than a day or so then you should see your doctor.

if it is lower abdomen pain in the left side when you are looking down it could be appendisitis. i know your appendix are on the right side, but you get pain on the left. go to the doctors.
Left lower abdominal distension often times is the result of constipation. The fecal material backs up into the ascending colon causing distension. I the absence of constipation, there could be diverticuli, a weakening in the colon wall causing a "pouch to form.
If left untreated, a fungal infection on your lower lip could spread to other areas of your body.
Lack of bile - this could indicate gall bladder of liver problems. Get it checked out....good luck
It could be Gall Bladder inflammation, causing the pain. Bile causing your stool to be green. You should see a doctor.
