tourque converter. Clutch,if this has a standard shift they had a problem with the differential stripping, hopefully not the problem but it is common. Check your fluid level. If the car gets out of drive and the car can be pushed your link should be fine. The problem then is either in the torque converter or in the control valves inside the transmission.
If a Lincoln LS V8 is making a engine noise when it is shifted into drive or reverse, it could indicate a seized gear in the transmission. It could also indicate a low transmission fluid warning.
There are several things that can cause your 1995 Chevy Cavalier transmission not to go into drive or reverse. The most common cause is a lack of transmission fluid. A broken shifting fork will also cause the problem.
Because reverse is a lower ratio gear than drive and puts less load on the engine.
The transmission
You have to get the engine looked at.
drive shaft could be out of balance or tires could be out of round
no cavaliers are front wheel drive and s10 is rear wheel drive tranny wont mount in right position (i own both a 96 s10 and a 97 cavalier)
no it is not. the bolt pattern on the back of the engine where the transmission bolts up is different. the cavalier is front wheel drive, the s-10 is rear wheel drive
could be bad mounts on either the tranny or engine?
I recently porchased an 04 cavalier with the 2.2 ecotec engine. It gives me around 360 miles on a full tank but thats really pushing it
Sounds like a torque converter lock up solenoid.
You have to unplug the electronic speedometer sensor located on the top rear of the transmission. It can be reached from above but its easiest to find with a lift. I have a 1990 cavalier and it has the same issue. I think its a problem with the sensor module that the speedo reader plugs into.
