To hookup the solenoid switch on F150 pick-up 5.0 after replacing it, first connect a voltmeter or test light to the solenoid's S terminal. Make sure the starter receives voltage at that terminal when the ignition switch is in the on position.
the solenoid itself is probably bad, if not that probably the ignition switch I agree 100%, check the solenoid first then the switch.
Did you replace the ignition switch? Not the key tumbler but the actual ignition switch. If so, you have a wiring problem.

Check the neutral safety switch,it is located on the transmission or on the steering column ,under the dash.
Usually by removing the old switch and replacing with a new switch.
please give instructions on replacing the ignition switch on my 99 Malibu
you have an open circut in your ignition switch change your ignition switch.
probably the ignition switch if you are refering to the starter solenoid.
Not to bash on the last answer, but, the starter solenoid probably isn't at fault here. If it will start with the screwdriver then the starter solenoid is functioning. It either does or it doesnt. The answer lies in circuitry back from the solenoid to the ignition switch. You could have a bad ignition switch or neutral/safety switch.AnswerDefective starter solenoid.
battery, solenoid/starter or relay or even ignition switch
A starter solenoid can be bypassed by connecting a jumper wire between the battery and ignition posts on the starter. This will cause it to spin immediately without using the ignition switch.
