If the bump feels like a hard pea or bean just below the skin surface, it is probably a keratinous cyst. These are totally harmless and are basically a clogged sweat gland. They will stay there unless removed by a dermatologist, which will require a stitch or two. If the cyst can be removed intact, it should not return.
