Spain never was a colony, so it never had to get its independence. As one state, it was created by the marriage of King Ferdinand of Aragon with Queen Isabel of Castile in the 15th century, which merged their lands to present-day Spain

Spain was a province of Rome. After the fall of Rome it was a group of independent kingdoms/principalities. The Moors invaded Spain in 711 and eventually ruled most of it until the last Moors were defeated in 1492. At that point Spain was unified under the reign of Isabel and Ferdinand and took the basic form we know today.

Well, the only people who had any real power over them at one point were the muslims. They had control over Spain for 800 years until Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand kicked them out in the "reconquest of Iberia"- campaigns by christians to kick muslims and Jews out.
