The Roman Republic was the first republic in Europe, and all other republics are redirected from it. (except for an Indian republic that existed before the Roman Republic, but the system there was different from modern republics).

San Marino is the oldest republic in Europe, since it became a country in September 3, 301 AD gaining independence from the Roman Empire. It is also proclaimed to be the oldest republic in the world, however it is unknown for sure.
