The FAA website (www.faa.gov) has many resources that focus on how to become a pilot, in many categories of aircraft. Go to the main website then click on the "Pilots" tab in the upper right corner, or go directly to this site:

http://www.faa.gov/pilots/

Get some Ray-Bans and a Big WatchGetting the license is spelled out in the F.A.R.'s (Federal Aviation Regulations) part 61. This set of regulations tells you how much time you need (Log Book Time). Solo Flying, Dual (flying with the instructor), Cross Country, Day, Night, IFR (instrument flight rules), VFR (visual flight rules), complex aircraft (airplane with a retractable landing gear and adjustable pitch propeller), How much Ground School, what subjects are Tobe covered in the ground school, and then if the flight training facility is a "approved school" by the FAA (Federal Aviation Agency) the requirements are different. These regulations also spell out the medical requirements, for a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, Class Physical. because without a current medical certificate you can't fly. And then there are the ratings which are add on to your license, such as ME (multi engine), IFR Instrument rating, Roter craft for helicopters, Flight Instructors, Type Ratings for aircraft over 12,500 lbs. Gliders, Airships, (like the Good Year Balloon) there is also rules for homebuilt aircraft, expermental, aerobatics, parachute jumpers.

But first you must be able to read write and speak English, because English is the universal language of aviation world wide. You also need to be of good moral character, have some cool Ray-Bans, and a big Watch.

You got to live, breathe and eat aviation. Hang out at the airport everyday, have someone to pay for it and support you, There must be a relentless desire, because it is a long haul to get to that left seat. and the Big Bucks.

Depends on the pilot certificate you want to obtain. No college degree required, but lots of flight training. All require a passing score on FAA written exams, as well as a flight test with an FAA examiner. To become an airline pilot, you will need around 1000 hours of PIC (pilot in command) time and at the very least 50 hours of multiengine time. You will need your Commercial Multiengine certificate, along with a passing score on the ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) written exam. To be an airline captain, you will have to obtain and maintain a 1st class medical certificate as well. Flight training is very expensive. This is a VERY basic and brief rundown, but you get the idea

Before you do start pursuing a pilot's license, know that there are certain requirements that you must meet before you can even be considered eligible for a license.

These are, of course, in addition to being ale to pass the written and practical tests involved in earning your pilot's license. The requirements listed below are considered general eligibility requirements by the respective regulatory committees in each country.

USA

As dictated by sec 61.103, Eligibility Requirements: General, for pilot's licensing with the FAA...

Candidate must be at least seventeen years of age. A private pilot's certificate for a hot air balloon or glider may be issued to applicants as young as sixteen years old.

Applicant must be able to read, speak and understand the English language, or else have operating limitations placed on his or her pilot certificate as necessary for safe operation of their aircraft.

The limitations will be removed if the applicant can prove that they have a

thorough grasp of the English language at a later date.

Applicant must hold a current, third class medical certificate. In the case of a certificate for a balloon or glider, the applicant must simply prove that they have no known medical defect which would hinder or prevent the applicant from safely operating the aircraft.

Canada

By CARs regulations, different aircraft require different specific qualifications. In general, though, a license to operate a powered airplane requires a minimum age of seventeen, and all aircraft require CARs standard 424 physical and mental health qualification.

UK

In the UK, there are a few different levels of aviation licensing, these are...

• NPPL - the National Private Pilot License

• PPL - the Private Pilot License

• CPL - the Commercial Pilot License, and...

• ATPL - the Airline Transport Pilot License

The NPPL has less strict medical requirements than the others. A medical form for application is available at the NPPL website.

Australia

CASA requires medical qualification, but a clean driving record may also be helpful in terms of receiving licensing in Australia. CASA may give minor penalties to their licensed pilot's for traffic violations, accidents, etcetera, and penalties may be more severe if the pilot does not record the incident directly to CASA.

Although there is no degree required to be a pilot, it is easier to get a job if you have one. As of July this year, ATP applicants are required to take and pass a special course before applying to take the ATP written test. It is roughly one week long.

The minimum education for a pilot is to be english proficient (meaning you don't need any formal education (high school, college, etc.)). Pilots can go directly to the army or a private flying school and not get a degree. Although this is not recommended, it is a choice. Another choice is to attend a certified aviation college to earn your degree and certificates (aviation) at the same time

To fly for an airline a bachelors degree. If you just want to fly, you don't need a degree, you just need to get your pilot's certificate for the type of flying you are planning to do. If planning on flying for an airline your degree doesn't have to be specifically on aeronautical studies, you can graduate from any field and fly on the side and still meet the requirements.
