They did much more than that! This is from my own essay for history class:
They built many things such as aqueducts, pyramids, temples, causeways, chinampas, dikes, etc. Since Tenochtitlan, their first city, was made on marshland, they had trouble building in the early days of the civilization. But then a discovery was made. If they anchored their buildings in the ground, using foundations made of wood, and they were able to build easily on this.
Much of their architecture was based off of Teotihliacan, a city farther away which was believed to be the place of the gods. It was often referred to as "the pyramid of the sun" because it was supposed that there the sun was born, even though it was already in ruins when they got there.
Their aqueducts were very important to their Daily Life. It gave them clean water, for a start. The aqueducts generally wound around a particular mountain, going off in small waterfalls to water the crops, and all ending up with the king's bath, in which he could look over the countryside and the people working on it. Some aqueducts about be used to bring clean water up to and over 3 miles, and there were public fountains, as well as water being brought to the workers by servants. Using something called a dike; they protected their clean, fresh water from the salt water. Nezahualcoyotl designed this. The dike had sleuth gates, so they could open and close it when they pleased, letting out water if it was getting flooded. In fact, they built this dike after a great flood had just happened, so they needed to be worried.
Another very important part of their daily life was their causeways. These were built on the water, with wooden frames stuck into the ground and the filled it up with earth and rock. This way, the people could walk freely across water to bring riches and goods to the more powerful city-states. Sort of an Aztec version of FedEx, except, actually faster! Their postal service was quicker than ours now today! And keep in mind they built these causeways by human labor alone, and they traveled through them the same way, by human ways.
A good example of a temple is temple major. Temples were used for sacrifices often, and some temples are even depicted in art with blood coming out of the walls.
Something AMAZING that these people made are called chinampas. These are artificial floating gardens, made out of notched sticks and twigs and such. They were made by human labor ALONE and are so successful that they produce 7 crops a year which is not a problem. They only take about eight days to make and were connected to the city by canals. This way, they could extend their crops easily and would have no problem getting food for those 15 million mouths!
There is MUCH MUCH more to talk about!!!! Please ask about specific things not a whole culture because its really complicated to talk about a whole, complex culture like the Aztecs.
They did many things, such as:
-Sacrificed humans for their blood as a gift to the Gods
-Built magnificent temples
-Made "floating gardens" called Chinampas
-Had many advanced items such as the wheel and the calender
