Many (if not all) of Bach's compositions were prefaced by a statement reflecting his devotion to the God in whom he invested faith. I don't know the German text, but a comparable English translation would be "To God be the glory". Besides that, many of the music collections he composed began with a musical format called "Prelude"; among these are his famous French Suites and English Suites for keyboard instruments. Bach also prefaced many "fugues", another famous music format, for solo string instruments, keyboards, as well as vocal and instrumental groups, with "preludes". But Bach was not unlike many composers of his day, or of composers of prior or subsequent eras of music (even up to our time), in using the "prelude" to introduce many of his famous compositions.

At the beginning of his manuscripts, he put "J. J." This stood for "Jesu Juva" which translated from Latin reveals to show that it means "Jesus, Help me."
At the end of these manuscripts, he put "S.D.G." which stood for "Soli Deo Gloria." Translated, this means "To God, Alone, [be] the Glory."

Why is INRI on the cross?

This is a later addition by the church to the cross of Christ. Originally, when Jesus was crucified, Pilate wrote on the cross about Jesus and it is recorded in the Bible in John 19.19,20 - "And Pilate wrote a title, and put [it] on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, [and] Greek, [and] Latin." The letters INRI are the initials of the Latin inscription that Pilate put on the cross. The Bible does not make it clear why Pilate wrote this inscription, but it may have been to compensate his weakness in allowing the Jews to crucify Jesus, and the writing did not please the Jews and they suggested to Pilate that he change it, but he answered: "What I have written I have written,"
