Intel 4004 chipset, a microcomputer chipset that was about an order of magnitude easier and cheaper to make than the calculator chipset the customer (Busicom) wanted made. With the right program it replaced their calculator chipset.
Not all that much. He just got frustrated thinking that the customer's (Busicom) calculator chipset logic that Intel had assigned him to implement in silicon was over 10 times as complex as the logic in the DEC PDP-8 across the room. All their chipset could do was desk calculator functions while the PDP-8 could do 1000s times more!!!
He suggested the customer's design be discarded and that he design a computer chipset (instead of a dedicated calculator chipset). That took some convincing at both Intel and Busicom - the result being the 4004 microprocessor.
Marcian Edward "Ted" Hoff, Jr. was one of the inventors of the microprocessor. He was born in Rochester, New York in 1937.

It was an invention that changed the history of computers.
Ted Hoff was born in Rochester, New York.
The microprocessor was invented by Marcian Ted Hoff in 1971. He was employee number 12 at Intel.
Marcian Hoff was one of the computer scientists who developed the microprocessor in the early 1970s. Having a 'universal processor' was an important development in computer science.
hi bye i hate yo! Marcian Hoff was one of the inventors for the microprocessor. The microprocessor is like the engine for the computer. When you turn on the computer the microprocessor helps the computer start.
Ted Hoff did.
