∙ 12y agoThe Black Death, or the Bubonic Plague, was caused by fleas carrying bacteria and living on rats. It killed 3 out of 4 infected humans and wiped out 3/4 of the population of Europe in the 14th century. Bubonic plague is believed to have claimed nearly 200 million lives in total, although there is some debate as to whether all of the plagues attributed to it are in fact the same strain.
In affected cities, proper burial rituals were abandoned and bodies were buried in mass graves, or abandoned in the street.
Bubonic means "swollen lymph nodes," which occur under the arms and on the groin.

Proponents claim that "Ring around the rosy" refers to the rosy-red, rash-like ring that appeared as a symptom of the plague. "Pocket full of posy" referred to carrying flower petals as at the time it was believed the disease was spread through the ether of unhygene, and scent stopped the spread.

Plague was used during the Second Sino-Japanese War as a bacteriological weapon by the Japanese Army. These weapons were used in experiments on humans before being used in the field. For example, in 1940, the Japanese Air Service bombed Ningbo with fleas carrying the bubonic plague. These operations caused epidemic plague outbreaks.

∙ 9y agoThe religious saw it as a curse from God, as leprosy was seen for many centuries. Because medical advances were uncommon in the Middle Ages, physicians of the time ascribed it to "bad air" (it was spread by close contact, probably through flea bites). One theory even blamed an astronomical event: a rare conjunction of three planets (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) in 1345, which supposedly affected the air.

the medieval people thought many things caused the black death like god was punishing his peopple for beiing sinful or peasents ( the poor).
Cats and dogs could also be blamed. However by killing cats, they just made it so the cats could not catch the rats(the real cause)
