The God, Khnum was one of the earliest deities to appear in Egyptian mythology, it is said that he created the first potters' wheel from which he fashioned children's bodies and placed them in their mothers' wombs. He was also later described as creating the bodies of other Gods in the same way, giving him the title, The Divine Potter.
At Elephantine he was worshipped along with Satis and Anuket as the guardians of the source of the Nile. The pharoah, Khufu, whom the Great Pyramid of Giza was built for was named after this God, his full name being Khnum-Khufwy (Khnum is my protector).
