The Berlin Airlift
Right near the end of the war with Germany, the Russian army slipped into part of Berlin, thinking that this would be a real prize for them. They were thwarted by the Allies, so they simply surrounded Berlin to prevent food and supplies from getting to its people. So the Allies, largely the US, started the Berlin airlift to fly food and supplies in to Berlin's people.
The Berlin Airlift proved to the USSR the US would not let Berlin be cut off. The USSR wanted to starve Berlin into joining them.
It was affected because they needed food and the us helped them
The plane most used to transport goods to the beleageared city of Berlin was the Douglas DC-3 or its military equivalent, the C-47. On the commemerative Berlin Airlift stamp is a famous picture of a C-47---or DC-3.

Berlin blockade. The Soviets blockaded West Berlin to force it to become communist (it was democratic). The Berlin Airlift is when the US airlifted supplies to West Berlin. You know so they don't give in to communism.
It was called the Berlin Blockade (June 1948 to May 1949) and the supply operation was known as the Berlin Airlift (June 1948 to September 1949).
