Answer #1- Well the Greeks in the early times didn't know why the leaves changed color, or how the wave came up, so they made the theory of the Greek gods

answer#2- man cannot live in world they have no explanation for. The gods gave them something that explained things to them. Man could not of thought of science at that time so they made up intricate tales to explain the world around them.
