They brought with them mostly Bacon, potatoes, rice, beans, and biscuits. They brought some crackers usually, and drank water. Along the way they had beef jerky, eggs, milk, and many other dairies that can be produced with just a supply of milk, flour, yeast, and water. When they ran out of biscuits, they fried bread, because they had no room for conventional ovens.
Salted pork, hardbread, biscuits, bacon, wild game, Salted beef. etc. etc.
for a family of 6 you would probably need 1000 pounds or more to start with unless they planned to stop at the first fort alond the way. In that case you would olny need about 500 pounds.

It depends but most Japanese people eat with chopsticks, and spoons/forks for soup and desserts.
