Romeo and Juliet can wear any costume the director wants them to wear. In a great many productions, Romeo and the men generally wear costumes from about 1480. But there is no reason whatsoever why such costumes should be appropriate. Dressing them in modern clothes like Baz Luhrmann did is perfectly acceptable. Shakespeare himself made no suggestions whatsoever about costume.

Since Romeo and Juliet are not real people and the setting is not specified in the text, they can wear whatever you think will work. T-shirts and jeans work for me. Others think mostly robes and cloaks in brown and red.

They wore Extravagant Long Dresses for women, they also wore masks resembling animal's and other creature's. Men were expected to wear a Puffy sleeved coat and a nice usually white or red shirt underneath for when they were dancing or just walking around. Most men had gold trimmed cuffs and a very nice belt. Men always wore long tights around that was expected of everyday society and the pants/Capri things were to short to not wear anything under them.

Romeo and Juliet are not real people: they are characters in a play by Shakespeare. Every time the play is produced the costume director decides what the characters should wear to fit in with the look of the particular production. In a Stratford Festival Production Antoni Cimolino wore a white suit. Leonardo di Caprio wore a blue Hawaiian shirt and a blue blazer. In loads of productions Romeo wears a doublet and hose. They are all Romeo when they are playing him. In one scene from the 1968 Zeffirelli movie both Romeo and Juliet are stark naked. In that scene of that production, that is what Romeo and Juliet wore: nothing whatsoever.

Since it occurred after the Capulet party, perhaps they would be dressed formally. Juliet possibly in a ballgown, or a party dress, and Romeo perhaps in a tux of some sort? Or a shirt and some smart trousers. On the other hand, Juliet is getting ready for bed, so perhaps she is already in her pyjamas.

Romeo and Juliet are fictional people. They didn't really exist. (The City of Verona might want you to think so to help their tourist trade but it ain't so) Since they didn't really exist, they can exist at any time whatever writer is writing about them wants them to. The most famous person to write about them, William Shakespeare, did not provide any kind of historical setting. There is no such historical period as "the days of Romeo and Juliet" so you can imagine them in any historical period--even nowadays.
