A lady in waiting dressed well and often in finery. This was because she was not regarded as a servant, rather someone to entertain and keep the queen or noble woman happy. The woman would often wear a dress with long sleeves and a hair piece. The dress would be ankle-length.

How a chambermaid was dressed usually depended on who she was serving. Some royalty wanted their chambermaids dressed nice, almost as well as the royals, and others wanted them to dress poorly as to show they were a servant.?æ

There were no maids. So, they didn't have uniforms. The nobility served the king/queen as part of the household. Minor nobles would send their sons/daughters to court to serve as ladies in waiting and other functions in the hope that they would find a wife or husband and help the family gain more power.

There were maid servants in lower families, though

Women typically wore long robes of silk in Medieval times. They also wore long, flowing gowns called kirtles. Women also did not cut their hair, and it grew to be extremely long.
