Amplitude modulation and frequency modulation. FM is a way of adjusting a signal for transmission by radio frequency to cut out the background radiation that can create static and a weak or damaged signal; AM is simply using one frequency and amplifying it only.

Time A.M. and P.M. (The uppercase A.M. and P.M. is preferred over a.m. and p.m.).

Meanings defined

a.m. or A.M. = ante meridiem (Latin)

Denotes "after midnight". (any time or hour after 12 midnight to 12 noon)

p.m. or P.M. = post meridiem (Latin)

Denotes "after 12 noon" (any time or hour after 12 noon to 12 midnight)

Radio AM and PM

Meanings defined

AM (radio) = The Amplitude Modulated (AM radio) carrier frequencies - frequency range is 535-1605 Hz.

FM (radio) = The Frequency Modulated (FM radio) carrier frequencies - FM radio band is from 88 to 108 MHz. The FCC set aside 100 channels, in a bandwidth of 100 apart; each channel can transmit signals in the range of 50 Hz to 15 KHz

Radio would have no value to us if it couldn't be used to carry information. Without

information added to it, the only thing you can tell about a radio wave is whether

or not it's there. The first, and simplest, way to add information to radio waves is

to turn them on and off according to certain patterns. At the receiving location,

the patterns of 'there' and 'not there' are used to spell text messages. The system

is called "Morse Code".

'There' and 'not there' is a very effective and efficient way to carry information by

radio. It's spectrum efficient and relatively immune to noise. But it's slow. There's

no practical way to use 'there' and 'not there' to carry a voice, let alone music, a

TV picture, or data at hundreds of megabits per second. New, faster methods of

adding information to radio had to be developed.

' AM ' stands for "Amplitude Modulation". The amplitudeof the radio wave is changed

at the rate of the information to be carried ... voice or music.

' FM ' stands for "Frequency Modulation". The frequencyof the radio wave is changed

slightly, at the rate of the information to be carried.

What is the difference between am raido and FM radio?

A: AM radio is an Amplitude Modulation transmission . Meaning it has fix frequency but it is modulated by the signal. FM Frequency Modulation the frequency is modulated by the signal

What makes FM radios different from AM radios?

AM radio is KHz FM radio is MHz AM radio can cover the world. FM radio can cover a county. AM radio is excellent in communication. FM radio is completely worthless, except for good sound quality. AM radio doesn't have as good sound quality as FM. FM is much higher on the radio spectrum than AM.

What is the meaning of FM in FM Radio?

FM means frequency modulation AM means amplitude modulation

What is an FM radio?

A radio that receives Frequency Modulated (FM) transmissions.

What are the differences between AM and FM radio?

The main difference between AM and FM radio is the dial-in number and the amount of static each receive. AM radio preceded FM radio, with FM becoming popular in the 1950s.

Difference between satellite radio and regular radio?

One of the main differences between satellite radio and FM radio is that there is a cost for satellite and FM is free. Satellite radio also does not operate using the same numerical AM and FM channels as FM radio.

Why would your radio work on the AM stations and not on the FM on a 99 grand Cherokee jeep?

Am signal but no FM signalAM and FM signals use different antennas to receive the frequencies they use. If you are receiving an AM signal (if you can tune in to an AM radio station), but you can't receive an FM signal (you cannot tune into an FM radio station), then the most likely cause of your problem is that your FM antenna is broken. This is assuming that you get only static while on the FM setting on the radio. If you get nothing, meaning no sound at all, then there is most likely a mechanical or electrical problem with the insides of the radio. (the FM button is broken, the chipset is blown...or a number of other electrical problems)
