No belief system is simple. Literally there are 100's of beliefs or teaching or doctrines that a belief system can have. Just listing possible beliefs could take a long time. So be more specific. What are you interested in specifically? God, Angels, the devil, death, resurrection, salvation etc adnauseum.

1. The Amish community chooses not to connect to electrical lines because it would be a connection to the modern world. The Amish lifestyle avoids any conformity to the ways of the modern world and it's culture. A reliance on electricity (and definitely use of the internet) signifies a conformation.

2. The Amish do use modern conveniences, if the use is indeed necessary to the task at hand. Sometimes, their interactions with people outside the community-Englishers, as Amish call them-requires the use of certain conveniences like a telephone or a vehicle.

3. The Amish are plain but their furniture has distinct character. Plain does not have to be bland. Furniture artisans in all cultures show creativity in their work.

Additionally, they only use modern conveniences if necessary to get through daily life. In the Amish community, electricity is simply not necessary. They still use the same cooking, working and living practices that our ancestors did as far back as the 17th century.

The main belief of the Amish is come out from among them and be ye separate. They have their own communities, schools, churches, and families. Salvation is by works. They keep the low German language in their churches as well as schools and other social gatherings.

They don't have electric because It connects you to the outside world, they also don't have phone because of the same thing. Differences are mainly between the Mennonites and Amish.

How are Amish quilts made?

The Amish are a group of individuals whom, for religious reasons, choose to rely on techniques and technologies that they can make, control and repair without reliance on an outside community. Because of this religious belief and lifestyle, most Amish communities do not have electricity or electrical machinery. Therefore, true Amish quilts are made by hand, with a thread needle and fabric. However, there are quite a few underhanded dealers who will sell "Amish" quilts that were not made by hand without the use of a machine.

Can Amish women date men outside of the Amish belief?

There is no cut and dry answer to this question, both genders are compelled not to seek mates outside their faith, especially outsider English people in fear they will leave their Amish society. You can only date as Amish person another baptized member, to be baptized is to make a verbal contract obligation to the community and Amish society to stay. But do Amish woman and men date outsiders, yes, mostly in secrete. If it is known that the Amish person is dating a outsider, everything will be factor in letting such Amish person continue, from the desire the outsider interested in joining, to the Amish persons parents, but the greatest determination factor will come down from highest elder in the community. If a Amish person regardless of their age, does something like date a outsider, against the denial the elder, they first will be shunned and if it continues excommunicated with nothing and no family ties.

Could you live with the Amish if you were not born Amish?

John Cook did, in the movie "Witness." The Amish are no different that the rest of us. Some are generous to a fault, and some not. While you might find Amish willing to have you live with them, one would have to wonder why you'd want to. The have a strong religious belief that living apart us important to keep from losing their faith. If you introduce English attitudes and ways into the family, you would tend to cause discontent and turmoil that might tend to break the family apart.
