Many people picture Buddhists living on a diet of only rice. No so!
There is no prescribed diet for Buddhists. Many Buddhists have a simple vegetarian diet regime. Some eat meat on occasion some not at all. The use of drugs and alcoholic beverages is not encouraged. At least one Buddhist story ("The Ox Herding Pictures") has the enlightened lead character "wine gourd in hand" going to the town to help the merchants.

Answer:

The common thought that Buddhists "must" be vegetarians is not supported by Buddhist teaching and discussion. It is strongly suggested that this dietary regimen be followed.
Or: Most Buddhists find vegetarianism preferable due to the tenant of Buddhism that asks us not to harm living creatures, there is no real restriction however so Buddhists eat whatever they want.
All Buddhists do not eat meat or any other killed Animal

Answer:
I'm sorry, but that is not entirely true. It is wrong to group all Buddhists together and for that matter all Christians.
Buddhists can eat meat; I myself am a Buddhist and I eat meat all the time. However the meat must be blaimless. This means that the animal in question can not have been killed for you alone. (ie:you hunted the animal, et cetera) The Budddhist must give thanks to the animal that died for the sake of nurishment because everything is equal is the eyes of a Buddhist. For example a human is not to look down on a cat, because they are both equal. Therefore, as long as the proper thanks are given, one can eat meat guiltlessly.

One of the precepts of Buddhism is "to abstain from killing sentient beings" , therefore if devout Buddhist is to prepare food for himself, he will always prefer vegetables. However, Buddhist will eat any food given to them as offerings. According to tradition, Gautama Buddha himself died by eating spoiled (?) foods given to him as offering when he was 80 years old.
Buddhists can eat any food that they wish, including meats and fish, as long as they did not kill the animal themselves, or the animal was not killed by their request or killed specifically for them. Many Buddhists are vegetarians, but The Buddha did eat meat.

Here is the information form my project on Buddhism that is stated by many different websites:

· Buddhists do not kill animals
· Buddha advises not to eat humans, elephants, horses, dogs, snakes, lions, tigers, boars and hyenas.
· Buddhist monks fast completely on the days of the new moon and full moon each lunar month; they also avoid eating any solid food after noon.
· In the time of Buddha Monks were expected to eat whatever was put in their begging bowl without discrimination including meat and rotten food
Due to the Buddhist Precept "Do no harm" many Buddhists choose to be vegetarians.
Buddhists were originally vegetarian, although not so much nowadays. I don't believe there are specific restrictions on food.

Answer:
Buddhist are generally thought to be all vegetarians. However in some countries such as Tibet meat has formed a part of the average man's diet. The Dalai Lama originally followed this practice but has converted to vegetarianism. In the west some vegetarians are not Buddhist and some who follow Buddhist practices are not vegetarian.
While the Buddha exhorted his followers to avoid eating meat - especially animals that were killed expressly for the eater, Buddhist monks were not to be choosy about eating whatever was given to them to eat.
Some Buddhists follow specific food restrictions - leeks, onions, garlic - due to their suppposed influence on aggression or lust. In addition intoxicants are generally forbidden becauseof the adverse effect on mental acuity and the ability to meditate and resist anger, lust greed and other mind hindrances.

Can Buddhists eat meat?

Answer: This is the cause of much controversy. I am a Buddhist, yet I eat meat. This is because many Buddhists believe that one can eat meat as long as it is blameless. This means that the one must not see, hear, or suspect that the animal was killed because of one alone. Also, it is suspected that the Buddha himself, and his followers ate meat. Answer: HH the Dalai Lama has written on this. The eating of meat is neither inherently good or bad, as answerer #1 indicates the desire to eat meat and causing harm to the animal specifically to satisfy that desire is where the harm arises . Refusing to eat meat prepared by a host is bad - it falls under the affectation of saying "Look how good I am!" Wasting food is bad as well. I Believe That If The Animal That Is Being Consumed Is Remembered For His Life Being Given And Respected As Well By Saying "Namu Amida Butsu" And Giving Thanks Then It's Ok. I Just Don't Agree With Killing Animals For Sport/Pleasure But Only For Our Sustenance/Survival. Does Any Other Buddhist Agree With Me?

Buddhist's specifically avoid eating intoxicants and drugs that mayinterfere with there concentration, garlic and onions because theysupposedly inflame the passions, meat from carnivores and birds ofprey, andanimals which would have to be killed specifically fortheir consumption. Why don't Buddhists eat meat?

Buddhists do eat meat and so did the Buddha . This is because the Buddha as well as the Buddhists was practising the Middle Path when dealing with eating meals (nutrients). This path is free from two extremes of practice, like eating only meals and eating only vegetables . The Buddha had never taught us to be vegetarians. He had never taught or encouraged all his disciplines (laypeople+monks) to eat a vegetarian diet. It is because just eating a vegetarian diet cannot help people attain Nirvana or it is not a merit (virtuous action) or it cannot give them a meritorious result. That's why he even did not practise vegetarianism, which is merely an extreme of eating practice and cannot give a special beneficial result. A vegetarian with anger, greed, delusion, pride, etc. in his/her continuum is much inferior to an eater of both meat and vegetables without anger, greed, delusion, etc in his/her continuum. In fact, the Buddha had even already decidedly dismissed a demand for vegetarianism for all the monks made by Devadatta (a Buddhist monk who was the Buddha's brother-in-law and had once been a disciple of the Buddha; who also injured the Buddha in the toe to bleed by throwing a large rock at him from a mountain; who was against the Buddha's teachings with 500 of his own followers and who was the enemy of the Buddha) with 'The Buddha's Authority' which is of incomparably greater influence than 'The Veto Authority' . Eating which kind of meal (meat or vegetables) doesn't matter; only the continuum of the eater (eating with anger, greed, delusion, etc.) in the process of eating matters greatly. Here is a teaching of the Buddha dealing with food: " Every creature (all over the universe, and he himself) has to depend on NUTRITION (required amount of food)" Without nutrition, for example, one can definitely not practise Vipassana (Insight), which can lead us to Nirvana, because of the lack of strength which can be formed only by nutrition. A person who has required nourishment is, however, strong and active enough to do practices leading to Nirvana. So, if we want to attain Nirvana, we do need to depend on required nutrition in a middle way so that we will be able to do practices leading us to Nirvana.
