How do chihuahuas come out when the mom is long-haired and the dad is short-haired?

The only true way to get a long haired chihuahua is mom and dad to both be long haired. Once in a blue moon a long hair may pup up in a litter because of the hidden long hair gene that has to be within both parents. So, it can happen but I have never gotten a truly thick long hair chihuahua this way.

∙ 11y agoIts all based on genetics. You could do this easily with a 'Punnet Square'. Smooth hair (short) is dominent and Long hair is recessive. If both dogs are purebred Long Hair and purebred Short hair, not carrying another gene, odds are, they will all be smooth puppies carrying the recessive gene from their father.
If your female smooth hair had a parent with long hair, 2/4 you will get a long haired puppy.

∙ 11y agoIt depends on the genes of the parents. The puppies will have a range of short to long the long hair is dominate most of the puppies will have longish hair. If the short hair is dominate then most of the puppies will have short hair. Like i said its going to be in a range of short to long.
