they sneak up on sea lions in groups and chase after fish. they also have a little sensor that sends out and if it bounds off of something they no its a fish or squid and chases it, they do this because they can't hear underwater and they don't have good vision.
The food that dolphins eat is different for each species.
While some dolphins eat fishes like herring, cod or mackerel, some others eat squids.
Even more, large dolphins like the killer whales, eat some other marine mammals like seals or sea lions and sometime even turtles.
Usually, the amount of fish that they eat depends on the kind of fish that they hunt. While mackerel or herring have a lot of fat, squid have not much fat, therefore, to get the energy required for their activities, dolphins have to eat more squid than mackerel.
On average, a dolphin with a weigh of 200 Kg. to 250 Kg will eat between 10 Kg to 25 Kg of fish every day.
Usually to hunt fish, some species of dolphins use a method called herding which is performed by a pod of dolphins where some of them surround a school of fish to compress them as much as possible, while some others take turns to dive through the compacted school of fish and feed.
Other usual method is corralling where fish is chased to shallow waters where they cannot escape.
Some species catch larger fish by hitting them with their tails to stun them.
Therefore the question about what do dolphins eat, has to be answered for every species in particular.
In this video you can watch a pod of dolphins working together to feed themselves and using the technique called herding to catch the fish as they surround the school of fish and then some of them take turns to eat.
some dolphins lyk chase fish on a bank and then the fish all roll on it and then the dolphin launches itself on the bank and eats t he fish
some dolphins surround the fish and blow bubbles in a circle around them, which will make the fish panic and jump out of the water and into the dolphins mouths.
theres probz other ways but idk them! x
A dolphin makes a clicking sound which travels through the water. When the sound hits the fish,it bounces back as a echo. The dolphin can tell where the fish are by listening to the echo.
they surround a school of fish to make it into a tight group, then a few at a time, each member of the pod darts in and grabs a fish.
Dolphins will work together when they find a school of fish. They will circle the fish creating a "fish ball" and then they take turns going into the ball to eat the fish.
They hunt for food using echolocation.

A predator-prey relationship near where I live is dolphins-tuna-sardines. Dolphins are predators that hunt and eat tuna, who are the prey of dolphins. The tuna are also predators, but they hunt and eat sardines, who are the prey of tuna. So dolphins know to look for tuna where they see sardines, but they do not prefer to eat the sardines.
I believe it is a fish.
Squids and fish.
