In Autumn, koalas do exactly the same as they do during the other seasons. They feed and sleep. Autumn is also one of the seasons when females give birth to joeys; koalas which have already given birth are nurturing their joeys in the pouch.

Koalas are able to live in a variety of weather types, as long as they have their food requirements met. They are known to inhabit cooler areas of southern Australia, including sub-alpine regions, and extend north up the Queensland coast and inland where the weather is hotter and drier. Koalas from the southern areas have thicker fur than northern koalas. In hot weather, koalas expend little energy anyway, so they do not suffer from moisture loss.

When and where do koalas have babies?

Contrary to popular belief, koalas, kangaroos and other marsupial mammals do not have their young in the mother's pouch. The young joeys are born from the normal birth canal, from where they must make their journey, clinging to the mother's fur, up to the pouch.
