A leopard gecko habitat is generally a desert environment with a small water dish, a substrate of sand (or paper towel when they are young, or cage carpet for their life you chose), and not generally trees or plants more logs or rock hide aways, but it is always your choice for what you want to do as long as it is desert related.

For just one, the smallest cage will be a 10 gallon aquarium, but a 20 gallon long is recommended to give extra space. For substrate (the stuff at the bottom of the cage), I use reptile carpet. Tile or coconut husk are others as well. DON'T use ANY sand, this can cause impaction, EVEN IF IT IS CALCIUM SAND! It should have at least 3 hides; one for the warm side, one for the cool side, and a humid one (around the middle of the cage). These can be bought at pet stores for pretty cheap. You'll need moisture retaining moss for the humid hide, kept moist every day. Provide a basking area (a place where it can lay under the light). Also provide a branch or multiple branches to climb on, some plants (I use fake but real work to), a food dish, a calcium dish, and a shallow water dish. It HAS to be SHALLOW or it might drown. Make sure it's a good size around, leos can enjoy laying in their water, plus it will boost up the humidity level if it is low. The cage needs a screen/wire cover which can come with the cage, if not, buy the right size. I recommend using cage clamps which locks the top onto the cage. You NEED an under tank heater to put UNDER the cage, it should be big enough to cover HALF of the cage. Make sure the cage is on some sort of "legs" to allow the extra heat to escape from under the cage. Also, put a heat lamp on top of the cage on the same side or middle of the cage as the under tank heater. It should be able to hold at least a 55 watt heat bulb. I also use a night light, which I have in another lamp in the middle of the cage, the night bulbs come in darker colors(red, purple, blue...) So if you use a night light, it has to be a darker color. The humidity level should be around 45% and the temp. at about 85 degrees (F). To tell this, get a thermometer and a hygrometer, bought at a pet store. Remember: NEVER house 2 males or a male and a female together! If you want more than one, only females should be housed together in at least a 20 gallon long aquarium or a bit bigger, but not to big. Sorry that I wrote a whole book, but I find it very important to take care of leos properly! Hope this helps!

A 20 Gallon tall tank would be perfect for up to two adult crested geckos. They are commonly kept with paper towel substrate and artificial plants. They would require many different places to hide and lots of height to climb.

How much would a gecko with the supplies cost?

Depends on how fancy a set up you want, for example if you already have a tank you only need heat mats and you don't need artificial lights as you would with Bearded Dragons. I priced it up for a 3ft tank and it would cost £30 for all the accessories as i already have the tank.

Can you use a leopard gecko kit for a panther gecko?

The leopard gecko kit being sold at most pet stores usually consist of: A 10 Gallon tank Sand for substrate 2-3 Deco's 1 Hide 1waterbowl 1 food dish You can use it for a panther gecko because panther geckos are very adaptable and can be kept in a desert or a tropical set-up, but I reccomend a mix. What I would do is buy the kit and buy some eco earth to mix in with the sand and there you go panther gecko set up!

How much does a gecko cost in petshop?

This depends on which Gecko you are talking about, as they are quite a few. A leopard Gecko is usually around £40, where as a crested Gecko can be picked up for as cheap as £20. That said, a red Crested Gecko can set you back £80. It is best to call your local reptile pet store for an exact quote.

How do you set up your terrarium for your leopard Gecko?

the smallest tank that you want for a leopard gecko is 10 gallons. Any bigger than that is fine. If you have 2 or more, a 10 gallon tank isn't big enough. Leopard geckos get very claustrophobic. when you pick them up, you don't want your hole hand around them, keep your hand nice and open or they get very stressed and that is never good for lizards. Some things you might need are rocks for it to lay on and get heat, a water bowl for when it gets too hot and also make sure it always has plenty of water. 1 to 3 hiding places depending on how big your terrarium is because they get stressed when they cant feel that there safe. Some leopard geckos are different, some like to dig under the sand and some like to climb. You will eventually fined that out when you get to know it. If you have a baby leopard gecko, DO NOT have sand on the floor of the tank because when they are going to eat, they could easily eat some of the sand and there bodies will not digest it well. Then you can design it what ever way you want, stuff for it to climb on, hide under, what ever would make more comfortable.

How much would it cost to keep a pair of leopard geckos?

Leopard geckos are insectivores, they are ground dwellers and they come from the desert. In captivity, there are many different things you can use to replicate a natural environment for a leopard gecko. A couple of different options can include: Tank/terrarium : A minimal of 10 gallons of space is required for each adult leopard gecko. A zoo med, exo terra, hybousa, all living things, tupper wear tubs or even a fish aquarium will work. The set up must be secure because although leopard geckos cannot stick to glass, they are great climbers and can easily find a way out of the setup if there is no lid. Heating/lighting : Leopard geckos require an ambient temperature ranging from 75-80 F and a basking spot up to 95-98F. In most cases a 40W bulb is sufficient. be sure to purchase a thermometer to ensure heat is regulated. These animals are nocturnal and do not require UVB lighting. They do not require a night light either. If you are able to maintain an ambient temperature of 75-80, in most cases a heating mat is not required. There has been many cases where a leopard gecko recieves severe burns due to laying on the mat directly. Substrates/bedding/accessories : Throughout the keeping of leopard geckos, most care sheets advise keepers to use calcium sand as a substrate, although this has been made for ground dwelling reptiles, it is not easily digestable. When a leo feeds, there is a high chance of recieving a mouthfull of sand, after an extended period of time, the leo's digestive track can become clogged up, this is called "impaction". Most hobbyist's reccomend using tiles, paper towels, reptile carpet to reduce impaction. Accessories within the tank can include fake leaves, rocks, branches and small bush's/ferns. Purchasing these items new can cost up to $300 including the animal. Purchasing these items used can cost up to $200 including the animal.
